We're getting married ❤︎

We are so excited to invite you to join us as we celebrate this new chapter in our lives together. You can find our full schedule and all the essential details on this website. We hope to see you there!

Our story

Our story starts on an app - as millennials living in London it was always likely to (Bumble, which in our opinion is the most underrated)… But our real story begins at a pub, a theme that has continued to this day. Our first date was on the 24th August 2021, at the Canonbury Tavern in Islington. After meeting in the early evening and staying until we were kicked out at closing time it’s fair to say that detailed memories are slightly hazy! But the overriding memory was just how much we made each other laugh and enjoyed each other’s company. It also ended with a kiss as Emily got on the bus which had Alex walking on clouds for a few days.

In between our busy schedules we found time to travel, including Milan and Rome, where Alex tried to set records for most miles walked in 38 degree heat. But, after a year of dating, our next big step came when we decided to take the leap and move in together. We moved south of the river to Hither Green, living above the Station Pub & Hotel that Alex was running at the time. It took some getting used to with hotel guests often attempting to come into our flat after taking a wrong turn, or Alex getting woken up at 3am by drunk guests who had lost their hotel key!

It was also while living here that we got our beautiful Black Lab Bruce. Getting Bruce has been a highlight of our lives together and a constant source of joy, despite his aversion to new people, new places, new smells, new sounds – basically anything new… Bruce has now taken over our lives and we fully embrace being the millennial cliché of treating the dog as our baby, without embarrassment.

On August 18th 2023, just shy of our 2 year anniversary, we had gone out to dinner to celebrate Emily’s new job and began talking about our future together. What started as a conversation about our future ended with a slightly impromptu proposal and that was that! Emily knew that she wanted to pick out her engagement ring and so the search began for the perfect ring. The search ended at Ingle and Rhode jewellers where Emily got her ring with a diamond shape and setting completely bespoke to her. About two months later the jewellers went out of business, so you can really say that her ring is one of a kind!

After the Station was a busy period with Emily getting her full-time role at ArtsEd (finally being able to move away from the hell of freelance teaching), and Alex getting a new job in the IT department of Young’s (finally being able to move away from the hell of pub management). We had more time (and money!) to enjoy some of our favourite past times together: travelling to more lovely city break holidays, watching films in fancy, overpriced cinemas, and exploring London’s food scene eating at some amazing restaurants.

We also moved to Crystal Palace at the end of 2023. Palace has truly become our home over the past few years, with a great park to walk Bruce, plenty of history for Alex to bore Emily with, and a lovely town centre full of independent shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy. It was while we were here that we started to look at wedding venues that reflected us and suited our needs. Over a full weekend of venue viewing (thanks to Nicky for helping!) we visited several places, and we fell in love with the Plough as soon as we walked into its beautiful pub. We can’t wait to begin our future together and celebrate this special day surrounded by all the people we love. It means so much to us to have you there to share in a day that will be in our memory forever.
